UFC 175 will play a very big role in Chris Weidmans career. It will either be the night he proves it wasnt just luck that got him the belt or it will cement the fact that he isnt worthy of being among the great champions. Either way you look at it, two belts are on the line Saturday night, and the card has a few interesting fights for fans. This is how Gabby McAlpine and Jordan Cieciwa see the night playing out. Follow Gabby @WebSodaGirl and cheer for #TeamGabzilla, or you can back #TeamJC and my picks @FitCityJordan Chris Weidman (11-0-0) vs. Lyoto Machida (21-4-0) JC: Thankfully Machida is not known for his leg kicks. I never want to see video like Anderson Silva breaking his shin again, thank you very much. This is the night that Weidman proves himself. However, I think Machida will play the spoiler. Weidman has the advantage in wrestling, but look what Machida did to the last wrestler he met. He destroyed Munoz, and thats no easy task. I think we are looking at a Machida who wants to get back to his winning ways. Its going to start here with Weidman. Look for a very decisive win for the contender. Hell get his timing, and a third round KO. Gabzilla: Chris Weidman will get this; I have sat with Chris and have had the fortunate opportunity to really chat with him. People say his last two fights were flukes. The knock out and the broken leg... I dont think so. We are in the new age of a champion. I believe in him and nothing can stop him now. Ronda Rousey (9-0-0) vs. Alexis Davis (16-5-0) JC: Here is the problem with this fight. Rousey is just simply outstanding. No one in her division has got to the point where they are just purely dominant. She does not have an equal yet. That is just part of the evolution of womens MMA. Someone will put the time in, and have the killer instinct, I dont think its Davis, not yet anyway. Rousey made it clear last fight that she answered the critics by improving her striking, leaving her game without any holes. She is just too dominant right now to let Davis take the belt. It will be a good fight, Davis is skilled. She just wont get the win. This is probably going to be another first round arm bar. Gabzilla: I dont think any woman in the division has a chance against Rousey. Lover her or hate her, she is here to stay Stefan Struve (25-6-0) vs. Matt Mitrione (7-3-0) JC: I am very excited to see Struve back in the cage, and really think the Martine fight is the only match up that makes sense. Martine is skilled and building a solid career in MMA. He knocks people out, and makes fights exciting. However, Martine is susceptible to the submission game. Those long legs of Struve and the fact that hes a smart fighter, I see this heading to the mat. Very similar to the win against Pat Barry, I see this being a solid triangle choke win for the Dutch Giant. Gabzilla: I think Matt will take this one. Struve is a giant... He has amazing reach and has won by sub. But I dont think he will be able to manage the power of Martine. Think Matt takes the win by KO Uriah Hall vs. Thiago Santos JC: Uriah Hall just doesnt seem to be there for the big show. If he hasnt gone back to his gym and really turned it up for this fight, I cant see him getting past Thiago Santos. Hall is a terrific wrestler, but it hasnt translated yet to the UFC cage. My fear for Hall is that he looks flat again, loses to Santos, and finds himself out of a job with the UFC. Im sure being 1-2 in his last three fights has done everything but impress the brass at the UFC. Time will tell, and Thiago Santos is the perfect test to see if Hall belongs in the UFC or not. He is fighting for his job, so he may bring that next level wrestling. I see this ending in a decision with Santos being the victor. Gabzilla: Hall won his last fight against Lebed but who hasnt beaten Chris... Halls start in the UFC after TUF has not been good. He has not lived up to the hype Thiago Santos is hungry and will win over hall. Fake Jerseys 2020 . The Toronto Blue Jays star won his second consecutive Hank Aaron Award as the most outstanding offensive performer in the AL on Monday after votes by fans and a panel of Hall of Famers were tallied.TORONTO - Each year NHL arenas turn their rink-board advertisements lavender and messages run on television and on video screens promoting Hockey Fights Cancer, a campaign to raise awareness and donation money.Within the past month as the campaign has been going on, cancer has been front and centre all across the hockey world. Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Olli Maatta recently underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in his thyroid gland, Buffalo Sabres announcer Rick Jeanneret last week announced hes throat cancer-free and on Thursday night Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray revealed he has stage 4 colon cancer.During the Sabres Hockey Fights Cancer night Nov. 7, GM Tim Murray paid tribute to his uncle. In a taped video message, he said: Im Tim Murray, general manager of the Buffalo Sabres, and I fight for Bryan Murray. The hockey community has been pulling for Murray since this past summer when the Senators announced he had cancer and would be undergoing treatment immediately. In an interview on TSN with Michael Farber, Murray explained that there is no cure at this point for me and just hope chemotherapy gives him more time.Murray, 71, urged men to get colonoscopies, as having one could have detected his cancer earlier. Farber, himself a cancer survivor after beating it in 2011, said the response to the interview has been gratifying. The best message I received was from a guy who said, Yeah, I just called for my colonoscopy, Farber said. Another 51-year-old said, Yeah, Im arranging that this week. Maybe something really good comes out of it.Maattas tumour was discovered as part of a pre-season physical. He was able to continue playing until having surgery to remove it Nov. 4 and returned to practice with the Penguins on Thursday in Toronto. There was an 85 per cent chance the tumour was cancerous, and the 20-year-old said so matter-of-factly about finding that out: It was cancer. But you know what? That was expected. It doesnt change anything.Maattas poise throughout this process, including not being able to tell anyone about the tumour for some time, has come as no surprise to his teammates.Hes a strong guy mentally to go (through) what hes gone through and handle it the way he has, captain Sidney Crosby said. I think as a teammate youre always there to try to support him. But its nice to see when somebody handles it that way. Its incredible. Were there for him, but he seems to be doing a pretty good job of getting through a lot of diffeerent things and handling them well.ddddddddddddAfter the operation, the Penguins said Maatta would return within four weeks. Coach Mike Johnston said Thursday the Finnish defenceman would be able to return within the next five or six days.Pittsburgh winger Pascal Dupuis said he couldnt imagine going through a similar situation when he was 20 years old.Hes a strong guy and definitely weve been trying to support him as a team, Dupuis said. Its more power to him. He handled that like a big man.Over the summer, Jeanneret was diagnosed with throat cancer and had to take a leave of absence from Sabres broadcasts. The 72-year-old St. Catharines, Ont., native has been doing Buffalo TV or radio since the franchises second season in 1971-72.Jeanneret performed a special ceremonial puck drop along with legendary Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly, whos now cancer-free, last week at First Niagara Center when the Sabres hosted the Edmonton Oilers on Hockey Fights Cancer night. It was then that he said he was cancer-free, and on Friday the team said hed return to the airwaves Saturday to call the first period of the Toronto Maple Leafs game at the Sabres. The time seems right to slowly begin transitioning back to work, Jeanneret said in a statement. My doctors have told me Im cancer free and Im feeling well enough to get back in the booth, even if its only on a limited basis for the time being.Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds used Hockey Fights Cancer month to tell his story, how his nana died of breast cancer in 1995 and how it affected him. The Toronto native wrote a first-person essay for Sports Illustrateds website about how he always wears a Blue Jays hat because that was a bond with her.Simmonds wrote that Hockey Fights Cancer has come a long way in his seven seasons in the NHL.I remember everyone would wear lavender ties. Then we organized hospital visits, we hosted families at games, we used lavender stick tape. Every year there are more activities to get involved in, and more ways for us players to show our support and help increase awareness, he wrote for SI. We see all sorts of people fighting cancer, including young kids. It makes me take a step back and realize that win or lose, compared to what theyre going through, Im just playing hockey.Im lucky to get to do what I love every day. Its a lot easier to go into the corner and take a cross-check than it is to be in the hospital fighting for your life.---Follow @SWhyno on Twitter ' ' '
